Wow, did you bring back memories: My father was a gentleman farmer, we lived in western Pennsylvania which is some prime country for growing corn. Your method is exactly what we did, except we didn't pre-mark, it really didn't take that long to find a dozen ears or so for cooking. I haven't had "fresh" corn in about 15 years.

You can't BUY fresh corn! Fresh is:

Fresh corn is eaten right there in the field raw. That my friend is fresh!

BTW, been feeling like I been eating dust by the spoonful 'round here, sure could use the rain. But at least I'm on well water, and da well never run dry :)
