A lot of people don't realize Armstrong ran interference for Greg Lemond's Tour victories too. Every cyclist has to pay his dues, just like Lance's USP teamates do now. It truly is TEAM Cycling.

Another reason for the show of sportsmanship (besides waiting for Ulrich after he had crashed off the course), with Ulrich shaking hands with Lance was because Lance gave him 3rd place at the finish line when Lance could have beat him again. Third place gave Ulrich an extra bonus 10 seconds off his time and put him on the podium in the overall standings. The placing didn't mean as much to Armstrong, all he wants to do is shadow Ulrich's time for the overall title (which he has a five minute lead.) The 10 seconds means nothing to Lance, but the respect Lance has for Ulrich showed up; Ulrich knew it, and acknowledged it at the finish line.

The Sportsmanship in Cycling is amazing and refreshing. They share tools, parts, food, water and friendship. The Outdoor Life Network has excellent coverage of the Tour. Watching these guys for just one race gives you a new respect for what they do, and how fast they travel in the mountains, and the conditioning. These guys are ultra superstars in Europe and watch the fans go nuts!

Thanks JRI! Very kind of you. WHen will we be getting long here? I have to get back in the saddle but the gloom appears quite widespread? I have to check my sources! But seriously; another day like today and I'll be long again
