Perception and psychology are the key and the buyers have to return with some strength or the "shorts" will dominate the playing field and eventually kill the goose.

The public (who mostly looks to go long equities) eventually gets tired of being goosed.

To much withdrawl of their money and and their representivives (mutual funds) will get goosed.
