Good question. It depends if its trading shares or shares out of Amzn's treasury. Shares kept in the treasury are not in the float.
I'm really confused about this AOL/AMZN deal.
CNBC reports the $100 million is for a strategic alliance agreement for Amzn to build AOL an e-commerce platform which won't be available until next year.
The $100 million is to be paid over an undisclosed period of time, but over several years was mentioned.
$100 million over several years does Amzn no good if you believe their cash requirements.

If they added shares it will help them report smaller loss per share going forward. Another reason to toot their horn when they report next quarter. Bezos is doing this with smoke and mirrors. When the stock made its low @8 and change was when Bezos & Co. realized they need more cash for survival. The pump begins and they're able to float stock almost 100% higher. I think that they should have gone for more now because I think they're running out of tricks for next time. Can't wait to see what they dream up next.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the deal is dilutive right? Effectively Amazon just added 6-8 million shares to the float, correct?

These are treasury shares and are all dilutive to the amount of 7 million shares depending upon the next few trading days.
