The comment about "not being able to scrape off a bit to get $500" was a scream also...US American Eagle coins are in denominations of 1, 1/2, 1/4 and 1/10 oz...pretty versatile to use as "money" if it ever becomes necessary. Not to mention silver, which is available as pre-1964 90% silver quarters and dimes in denominations roughly equivalent to .40 and 1.00. Finally there are Silver American eagles equivalent to roughly the current $5 Clownbuck bill...

All in all, a replacement bullion system for the clownbuck is readily available, should it be deemed necessary
