Del and al,

The "new regime" is, IMO, a chimera for now. There is a line of thought running through the patents concerning "programming entirely within the crystalline phase", but does this offer nonvolatile retention, and is it a technology that will show up in products anytime soon? Doubtful and no, IMO.

Regarding melting temps of the alloys, I think you will find, if you look through the patents, that the progression has been toward higher melting temps. Other issues aside, these would afford more stable retention.

All IMVSO (in my very stubborn opinion).

I'm looking forward to those ML drives coming out SOON!
