Peter, there has only been a decline in the tech.wreck and dot.bomb. It hasn't been a cascading collapse, by which I meant over a period of a day or two, when declines broke margin requirements forcing instant sales which caused declines which caused more margin collapses which caused more sales and more price decreases.

The wreck has been 16 months long. A very slow-motion wreck. What I worried about was horrendous. This is nothing.

Neither has the Dow declined significantly. It has been constant for going on 3 years with a few ups and downs and peak between.

I would not be surprised if we have seen the worst, however, people tend to over-react, so I would not be surprised to see another big decline, including the Dow this time.

But the USA and its economy are doing quite well and are very big - the USA is to the world as Britain was to the British Empire, or Rome to the Roman.

As people choose whether to save money, invest or spend, they will lean less towards save with interest rates much lower.
