National Processing Company Named Acquirer of the Year
biz.yahoo.com
LOUISVILLE, Sept. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- National Processing Company (NPC®), a leading provider of merchant credit card processing and a wholly owned subsidiary of National Processing, Inc. (NYSE: NAP), announced that Credit Card Management magazine named NPC as recipient of the 2001 Acquirer of the Year award. Now in its fifth year, the CCM's Payment Card award program recognizes organizations that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence.

``NPC is proud to be recognized as Acquirer of the Year,'' said Thomas A. Wimsett, president and chief executive officer for NPC. ``This recognition has been made possible due to the efforts of many talented people.''

In the past two years, NPC has completed a major transformation. At the beginning of 1999, NPC was a small data processing conglomerate with seven different business lines, 26 different operating facilities, over 11,000 employees, revenues of approximately $500 million with organic revenue growth about three percent. Today, NPC is a mono-line payments company with only three operating facilities, 2,300 employees, revenues are approximately the same and organic revenue growth is about 14 percent. Most importantly, operating earnings have nearly quadrupled.

``I want to thank our employees and distribution partners,'' added Wimsett. ``These results were achieved due to their hard work and dedication. I also want to thank our customers; we are committed to their success and appreciate the opportunity to serve them. Finally, I want to thank our shareholders, particularly National City Corporation. Without their confidence and support, the transformation and success of NPC would not have been possible.''
