I too thought the spin-off would continue. So, first, kudos to those on the thread who called it correct. JGoren I remember for sure taking this position (Carranza and JohnG also?). Anyway, to all who called it correctly - a tip of the hat to you.

As to the substance, I see it as a sign of two things.
1) It obviously made less business sense (i.e., created less value) to continue with the spin than to keep QCOM together.
2) QCOM got all the IPR it needed in the recent license agreements - especially with NOK. This is excellent news. It means that QCOM probably has a commanding, if not insurmountable lead (near-term at least) in developing multi-mode chips. It also means NOK caved big-time. No wonder they were so quiet about the agreement.

With the spin-off off the table, I guess the analysts' emphasis on the CC will now shift much more to the impact of the NOK agreement. At least I hope there are lots of probing questions about it that reveal more of what QCOM gained.

One other point. Chase H&Q had a l-t buy on QCOM due to the spin-off (per Snyder some months ago). Is it only a coincidence that the day before spin gets pulled Snyder comes out with his negative blast? I guess it was OK to take the muzzle off of him.
