why has AMZN lasted this long? IMO, Investors have been WAY TOO PATIENT...The company has had years to prove they can develop a business model that MAKES MONEY...=)

Best Regards,

Scott

glenn, what was amzn's cash burn last q? losing $700 mil in gaap dollars per year still looks steep to me. ;-)

Cash burn seems to be about $125 million for Q2 2001. There was about a $11 million influx into marketable securities which Amazon classifies as cash that I cannot find the source. They show it as an investment gain but it would seem very difficult to believe Amazon made $11 million in the stock market or on bonds during Q2 2001. Amazon did poorly in their investing during good times. Anyhow, burn would have been about $136 million without the investing gain. By the way, Amazon broke out their losses from investments as a seperate charge for the last few years. The losses in Pets'com, etc. However, this $11 million was added in as though it came from operations.

I believe inventory was down as was payables due to the fear of providing credit by some of their vendors. The $100 million from AOL may still not be enough to make all vendors comfortable.

investors aren't too impressed. i think they are beginning to see this aol "deal" as a sign of weakness - iow, they now realize that amzn is wounded and needs help to survive.

I was not able to watch today. Did it appear institutions were net sellers today?
