I think they are showing in my opinion admirable restraint in order not to further roil an already, at best tenuous market.

I have some trouble with the notion that a credit crunch killed the market. Don't you think that sky-high valuations may have played a part? That maybe stock prices got out of whack with underlying value? In other words, that a major correction was inevitable.
