Brian, that is what I meant by "purports" to be unbiased. It may well be biased, but since you read that disclaimer, you have the option of still reading it and discounting it as you believe appropriate. Even if you disagree with what you read, it will tell you how the opposition thinks. Even if you don't like how they think, you may learn something incidental that is of value, like how to knock a hole in their claims.
However, for all I know you did read it, and this is your comment. And, that is O.K.
Soon, I will write a little piece on the difficulty of being"objective." I know that I cannot achieve such an idealized state. I prefer open admissions of whatever might taint credibility; for me, that disclaimer increased trust because I believe almost everyone has an axe to grind.
Sometime when I was doing therapy, I used paradoxical tactics: "I cannot possibly know you well enough now to give you the sensitive care that you truly deserve. Please be sure to protect your best interests by not trusting me with what is most important until you are confident I deserve your trust." Only the novice claims to be trustworthy because everyone distrusts the person who says, "come on, you can trust me."
Why people on this thread have even said that sometimes I am so positive that they can't trust me (gg). Can you imagine that? When I am overly enthusiastic, I set off their defenses against being conned. I hope it makes them do their own due diligence.
I hope this doesn't help (gg).
