What was Clinton's solution? He had none. He sat on the issue for 8 years and actively sabotaged the only honest bipartisan solution that was brought forward. Eight precious years totally wasted.

So what is Bush's solution?..

"What exactly is the government going to do as those on social security equal or exceed the number who are paying and we find out that the so called trust fund is just money we owe and may not be able to collect?"

Well that comment was directed to the idea that Social Security is not a Ponzi Scheme.

"The problem of the baby boomers has been forecast for many years and discussed in congress for just as long. So what is Bush's solution?....give a 1.3B$ tax cut based on a tax revenue surplus that may not exist much longer. Remember both he and Gore promised to save SS and Medicare... What would be your preferred remedy?"

You are correct the tax cut is a dumb idea too little to stimualate the economy but enough to increase the deficit. Congress has been running away from this problem for years and it seems to me that there are only two real ways to solve the problem. 1. Reduce benefits, 2. Raise taxes. 3. Dont't use the social security payments to finance the deficit and WE DO HAVE A DEFICIT, by any definition except Washington's, which finances a part of the deficit with SS revenues. This is not a balanced budget or surplus.

The solution requires pain and this of course is why they are running from the problem. I am skeptical of the the investment accounts because I believe the market has made a long term top which may last for ten or fifteen years. However, it could be a part of a long term solution, if introduced at the right time.

The longer the problems go unaddressed the more drastic the solution will be, but there are no leaders in this country now. The last leader we had was Reagan and he couldn't solve the problem though he did try.

They are probably all hoping to be out of office when the SHTF.
