Market Update
from Briefing.com
2:35PM: The Dow is heading south quickly this afternoon. The Nasdaq is also at session
lows. The indices are setting up for some ugly closes. Because it's earnings season and an
ugly one, a turnaround into the close is unlikely as stocks are not rallying on bad news as
they did last quarter...Most every sector is slumping, especially tech, energy, retail....Rail
stocks are getting hit hard: Burlington Northern (BNI 27.24 -2.34), Union Pacific (UNP
53.15 -3.35), Norfolk Southern (NSC 19.55 -1.18) on weak earnings reports. Not often
group sells so sharply in one day...

Homebuilders continue to sell off this afternoon on an analyst downgrade....Stocks hitting
new 52-wk lows today include Avici Systems (AVCI 4.30 -0.72), Enron (ENE 42.95
-3.71), i2 Technologies (ITWO 10.21 -1.29), Sycamore (SCMR 6.15 -0.26), Time Warner
Telecom (TWTC 24.11 -2.32). NYSE Adv/Dec 993/2057, Nasdaq Adv/Dec 1127/2428

Yep, I guess it took a while for the NEW HIGHs-LOWs to decline. Thats a relatively strong decline. Yesterday it was positive and today the NEW LOWs are almost double the NEW HIGHs.
