Commerce One to use Intel as host for b-to-b e-marketplaces www2.infoworld.com July 24, 2001 11:46 AM Commerce One to use Intel as host for b-to-b e-marketplaces By Heather Harreld INTEL ONLINE SERVICES will host Commerce One's business-to-business on-ramp, e-marketplace software in a deal announced Tuesday. Commerce One will be merging its marketplace software with Intel's networking, hardware, and operating system support. In addition, Commerce One plans to use Intel's AppChoice managed hosting service to customize hosting services for Commerce One customers, according to company officials. This managed application service delivery of Commerce One's offering is designed to reduce implementation time for e-marketplaces, improve time-to-market, and reduce the burden of additional IT expenditures, officials said. "There is a need for Commerce One to provide infrastructure on a global basis ... and leverage an outsourced model," said Robert Yusin, vice president for global managed services at Commerce One. "Economic conditions are driving us to create more subscription-based models rent-as-you-go. When economic conditions get better, then they [enterprise customers] can procure the application themselves." Commerce One plans to announce similar hosting partnerships with other providers, Yusin added. This agreement represents an expansion of Intel's relationship with Commerce One, a broad alliance signed in October 2000 that included collaboration on business planning, solution development and engineering, customer support systems, sales and channel development, and marketing. The Pleasanton, Calif.-based Commerce One selected Intel Online Services, based in Santa Clara, Calif., as a worldwide Web hosting services provider because of its global infrastructure and management services, network of relationships, and ability to serve customers, said Steve Hanau, Commerce One's senior vice president of marketplace services.
