Paul,

A company's common stocks purchased via open mkt are "treasury stocks" and are not included in the "cash and marketable securities" sections of the financials. Amzn can have higher "cash on hand"(cash flows..working capitals..) on it's q-statements due to it's rather unique receivable method - Credit card payments. Therefore, Amzn can book the revenue instantly upon orders...and ship the products a few days(weeks) later..but the payables(to vendors) can be delayed for 30 days or so...per payment terms.

I don't think that Amzn has any "treasury stock" at all so it should not be the case. I don't have any Amzn position...was ready to short above $17 pre-earning...but did not do anything. Amzn still is very heavily shorted...will be interesting and would like to make a few Amzn$$ in the next few weeks.
