I am sure that the government will keep paying SS benefits at least until the Trust Fund balance reaches zero -- as it very probably will over the next 30 years or so. I also think that Trust Fund assets may in fact be more secure than publicly held government debt. I bet that the retired and soon to be retired Trust Fund beneficiaries have considerably more voting power than the holders of public US debt -- many of them foreigners.
