2Mar$ - What about my post was grandstanding?

dictionary.com

To perform ostentatiously so as to impress an audience.

Do you think my only or even main purpose here is to try to impress people? What about my posts indicates that it is even a minor concern for me? (and if it was only a minor concern the posts would not be grandstanding)

Is it your opinion that anyone complaining about a death has no credibility if they did not complain about previous deaths?

absolutely...

>>>

So very few people must have credibility with you then at least in regards to complaining about deaths. I very much doubt you personally have publicly protested every significant case of death from war or opression or lack of respect of human rights in your lifetime.

>>>
the Vietnam War could have been ended in 1954 after the
Geneva accords ... and Vietnam would have been
united under Ho Chi Minh by----> democratic election.
The US , and good God-fearing folk (maybe like like you ),, who were seeing communists under every table , prevented those elections ....elections that were agreed upon before.

>>>

Seeing communists under every table is stupid but the regime in the north was communist.

The elections where planned for 1956 not 1954. The north had more population and also would effectively contronl the election although the communists at the time would have probably won an actual free election in the north if one was held. The south was divided. Countrywide the communists probably would have won because there was not much of a developed coherent opposition to their ideas until a South Vietnamese government was created and because they would stop at nothing to gain power over the whole country. By the time the US had large #'s of soldiers in Vietnam the South did have an identity as a seperate country from the North.

You are right that it could have been settled in 1954 or 1956 by just letting the communists take over. Then the only war would be a brief one where the communist put down the opposition.

>>>
The joke was on us ...and it was an ugly one.
And much uglier for the Vietnamese.

>>>

One of the ugliest parts being that the north won.

>>>
as for Pacifism what has that to do with fighting ignorance & resisting stupidity ?
>>>

Not that much, or atleast not much that is relevant to this conversation. But pacifism would explain why you might consider defending South Vietnam from agression from the north as not just unwise or stupid but as actually evil.
