Listening to the news today, I was more amused to hear how W is supposedly being boxed in by the Pope on stem cell research. Historically, it seems a bit ironic to hear that the Pope is supposed to be in a position to tell the President of the US what to do.

The Pope can't tell the president what to do but of course it is perfectly right for you to do so...

Bush is not under the command of the Pope but it is perfectly legitimate for the Pope to have an opinion and there is nothing wrong with him expressing it either in private to Bush or in public.

Then there's the more proximate issue of the Pope's equally strong faith in the "every sperm is sacred" doctrine,

Could you detail this "every sperm is sacred doctrine"? I must have somehow missed it in my 10 years of Catholic school.
