I think puking over my comments regarding MSFT is overreacting. And I can agree with all that's wrong with it. MY POINT is that, love 'em or hate 'em, they were the 300 pound gorilla that was AT LEAST A MAJOR PART of the technological revolution that revived the US from Jimmy Carter's "economic malaise". And my point was that the markets began this ugly reversal when the government tried to assassinate it.

Why does every guru/expert programmer despise MSFT? Because MSFT took computing to the masses first. Because many of the guru/expert programmers didn't really want that to happen. Because MSFT realized that in order to market to the masses you had to produce software which could be run by idiots, and for which elegance could often be a handicap. Because by behaving like a bunch of ostriches the guru/expert programmers ceded the initiative to MSFT and allowed them to seize control of the marketplace. There are plenty of sins to be placed at MSFT's door, but I don't buy into this victim mentality that the "guru/experts" are trying to lay on the world. MSFT happened because they let it happen. They let it happen because MSFT was focused on solving business problems rather than technical problems, and they weren't. The problems created by MSFT don't come because they have somehow violated the guru/expert code of purity. They come when MSFT places too much emphasis on their number one business problem - how to reap obscene profits for MSFT. And, despite what they sometimes say, that's not the real problem the guru/experts have with MSFT.
