The 30-day rolling average prices of 128Mb DRAM (PC133, 16M x 8) for the spot market fell between US$2 and US$2.5, and is still declining, sagging below the US$2 level on a daily basis. According to a worldwide survey of DRAM prices by ICIS-LOR, which has bases in London, Houston and Singapore, the 30-day rolling average prices through July 6, 2001 for 128Mb DRAMs (PC133, 16M x 8) for large users were US$3.20 in North America, US$3.22 in Europe and US$3.23 in Asia. In comparison with the previous week's 30-day rolling average prices through June 29, the prices declined 3.93 percent in North America, 0.94 percent in Europe and 6.58 percent in Asia. As for prices of memory modules, the spot price for 128MB DIMMs (PC133) in North America dropped 4.61 percent from the previous week to US$17.64, down 9.62 percent in Europe to US$20.50, and off 9.07 percent in Asia to US$17.55. Some of the DRAM makers are starting to restrain further investments. But on the other hand, there are plans to shift to 300mm wafer LSI production lines to those for DRAM production. Therefore, unless existing production lines are shifted to those for items other than DRAMs, production capacity will likely rise again.
