Pro-Forma....Gives a whole new meaning to Robber Barons, eh? InfoSpace sees red ink for rest of 2001

BELLEVUE, Wash. (CBS.MW) -- Shares of InfoSpace, a provider of online and wireless content, plunged by 20 percent after the company warned of losses for the rest of the year.

The stock recently traded at $2.67 after hours. During the regular session, the stock was up 6.7 percent to $3.33 in a down market.

The suburban-Seattle-based company's (INSP: news, chart, profile) reported a 1-cent pro forma profit for the second quarter, beating the 2-cent loss expected by analysts polled by First Call/Thomson Financial.

However, the pro forma profit was achieved after the addition of $4.58 million in other income. Excluding other income, InfoSpace had a loss from operations of $1.8 million.<?b>


The company recorded a pro forma profit of $2.6 million in the second quarter, compared with earnings of $11 million, or 3 cents, last year. Pro forma figures exclude noncash and one-time charges plus items unrelated to core operations.

Revenue came to $50.9 million in the quarter, slightly ahead of expectations and up from last year's $50.5 million.

Including all the charges, InfoSpace lost $70.9 million, or 22 cents a share. A year earlier, its net loss was $38.9 million, or 13 cents.

Right. "Hypothetically speaking", of course.

(Hypothetically speaking) he sold, perhaps, because he knew the company was built on cards - since he owned the patents and all else. IMHO, he should be jailed if this is true - then deported.
