It never looked like Crown Jewel was going to get developed given the political climate in Washington state. BMG had no success after 11 years and lots of money, and following the Newmont acquisition it really looked doomed. Crown Resources stock jumped yesterday on the news, and I think they might be able to develop a small custom mining operation.

As part of the big consolidation we all expect, we might end up with a handfull of huge firms, fewer mid-tiers, and many small miners who capitalize on properites that just do not make sense for the majors. I think of Crystallex, who manged to pick up Bolivar Goldfields assets along with a mill and El Callao to mine 100koz in 2000 with plans to go to 200koz by 2002. Not big, but it is profitable.
