sheesh, now you can get a CP just for saying nobody knows shoot from shinola...what's the world coming to?

to buttress P's point, and because misery loves company, I thought I'd pass on the following. I was commiserating with a buddy (lurker here) about some of our common investments, and trying to find solace in how we had learned good lessons from the bubble and its bursting that we could apply through life, blah blah blah.

He said that we shouldn't feel quite so bad since it wasn't only novices who got burned. He had lunch a little while ago with a very prominent financial journalist, a guy who had been skeptical and value-oriented and bearish in print on a very regular basis from 98 onwards. My friend made some rueful comment about how the guy had proved to be right, and joked about how well he must have done. The journalist scowled, and confessed that he had lost a tidy bundle on some former highflyers, including one or two that have been discussed around here on occasion.

My friend was shocked, and asked how that could have happened seeing as the guy had called things bang on all during the height of bubble and afterwards. The journalist replied, "what do I look like, crazy? these things were going up several points a day, again and again and again. It was obscene! who could resist?"
