Not only possible, but likely, because an illiterate population may find it difficult to understand the basic principles of economics. You also have to factor in the integration of the world economies, particularly macroeconomic factors, that can be instantaneously tweaked by speed of light communications between the computer system linking the worlds bankers. Events that would have resulted in a quick downward spiral can be dealt with before things get out of control.

Talking about literacy: "As you have nemed yourself thread mommie;" I am disappointed in you Richard But, I do understand that the isolation of 24 hour shifts in the crows nest can play havoc with ones mental acuity.
