The big players don't really compete all that much, companies that are interesting in AMD flash will rarely consider Intel flash, and vice versa. And except for the low capacity market, they flash chips aren't interchangeable. So an OEM has to commit at design time instead of playing one supplier off another when they buy.

But despite all of that prices have collapsed. I guess it could be even worse if flash was more a a commodity but this relative lack of "playing one supplier off against another", hasn't done much to keep prices up.

What is flash used for in the Comm infrastructure sector. Do switches and routers need flash?
