Where did the vegetation get the carbon? From the atmosphere in the form of CO2.

Quite possibly correct, but of no relevance.

The greenhouse effect posits that all that CO2 in the atmosphere at one time heats the planet. At no point in your "explanation" have you shown that all that carbon was out in the atmosphere at a single time. If you look around you there is carbon all over the place which is not in CO2 form, including in your own body.

Furthermore, even if we were to show that at one point all that carbon was in the atmosphere in the form of CO2 (which is quite unlikely) we would still have the open question if such a large amount of carbon is conducive to life forms as they exist today, as opposed to those that existed millions of years ago.
