Washington, July 25 (Bloomberg) -- Republican leaders in the U.S. House postponed a showdown vote on patient-rights legislation after President George W. Bush failed to win more support in his third meeting with undecided lawmakers.

House Majority Leader Richard Armey said delaying the bill from Friday until next week -- or next month if necessary -- will give Bush time to lobby. He's fighting for his version of a bill to give patients more rights in dealing with health insurers, saying a competing plan would lead to too many lawsuits.
