Sure, it is likely that he got privileged treatment, although it was not clear at the time that the Guard was a haven. A number of infantry units were called up during Vietnam, and, as I said, during the Korean War the Air Guard saw dangerous duty. The main privilege, I believe, is that he got to fly, in imitation of his old man. However, acknowledging the likelihood that his father's prominence helped is not the same as saying that his father actively pulled strings. Someone, I forget his name, has acknowledged taking it upon himself to help out, but denied parental involvement in asking for the favor.......
