The point is, these games are very, very hard to follow, and it pays to be skeptical.

Ain't that the truth. Anything more enthusiastic than cautious optimism is almost certainly unwarranted.

I was having a discussion on the phone last night with a friend about the immense difficulty of sorting all this stuff out about any product category. This is NOT easy stuff. If it were easy, there wouldn't be so darned many intelligent, informed people having such a difficult time grappling with the significantly important issues and occasionally making errors in judgement.

We all know that investing in individual companies can be very profitable. I've never seen anyone say that it's really easy.

Ethan,
I believe your intention is clear, and I appreciate the "thank you." I respect the importance of being skeptical and careful when investing. I wish that I were more so. I was fortunate enough to get out with a profit on Broadvision after I decided it did not meet gorilla criteria. I am less lucky with Rambus, because it still looks good to me in spite of my very red position at present.
As for the "mudge" thread, I will definitely stay off of it. I don't run after my slaps in the face, and I have no desire to be curmudgeonly, favoring compassion and tolerant, patient forbearance as the best ethical stance to take with others.
