Thomas, One is missing something without either, along with finance and a number of other realms which one needs for a complete understanding of a company and its markets. Of course one is missing something without neither! That's so obvious that it has no relevant meaning unless you believe that an investor is accepting too much risk without knowing everything. I don't know if you believe that but I don't. The reason my back gets stiff when I see comments like that is because it's too easy for an investor to read it and think that s/he needs to know the whole shebang to be successful. And that smacks of the brokerage businesses telling the retail investor that they can't do it without their professional expertise. --Mike Buckley
