I've been doing a trial with Optionetics Platinum and tried to get a straddle on AVIR to come up, but it wouldn't. Might be because the options aren't trading.

Hard to say about the speed of the volatility changing. I'm sure in some cases it changes quickly.

I think using straddles for news events makes a lot of sense. Has it generally been working in the past?

I'm concentrating more on finding a combination of undervalued options and a stock whose short term volatility is below the long term volatility and moving back to normal.

US panel rejects Aviron's flu vaccine FluMist

GAITHERSBURG, Md., July 27 (Reuters) -

A U.S. advisory panel on Friday rejected Aviron's (NasdaqNM:AVIR - news) FluMist, a nasal spray vaccine, for preventing influenza in healthy children and adults.

The Food and Drug Administration advisory committee said FluMist was effective for preventing the flu in healthy children and adults, but voted 10 to four that it did not have enough information to say the vaccine was safe.

The final decision on approving FluMist rests with the FDA. The agency usually follows its panel's advice.

If it were to gain approval, American Home Products Corp. (NYSE:AHP - news) would co-market FluMist.
