another thing (greg will ove this), government regulators (that's reg-a-lators, greg) forced JDSU to sell its Swiss plant to Nortel to satisfy monopoly concerns. Thet got NT stock in exchange about 48 hrs. before NT issued its first huge warning. hmmm....

now they're laying off thousands. guess the govt. got that one wrong... wonder if JDSU would rather have the plant or the cheap NTY stocd today but that's a whole nother can of worms...

anyway, my point is that neither MRVC nor JDSU mgt. has covered themselves with glory this year but they've got good company and they were all taken by surprise b how quick the market turned...

Actually, the accounting gimmicks that optimists are so quick to brush off are where the $5 Trillion lost by Naz investors went. The deal for SDLI was incubated (cute, hah?) at top dollar, but was executed after JDSU share price came down by about 50% if I'm not mistaken. Items like this may not bother you, but the accumulation of smoke and mirrors by hundreds, if not thousands of corporations, is a big reason our economy finds itself in the doldrums it's in.jmho.knc
