Appreciate your candor, Uncle. I still have some CREE from way back for long, long term.
And picked up some swing trade shares the other day when it dropped below 20 again. Short term target is 26.
Cheers
Ron

In evaluating a fine company like Cree, (or EMC, INTC or others) we all need to recognize our particular investment horizons. I appreciate Unclewest's clarification and his decision makes perfect sense. My cree shares are held in a retirement account (ten years away from liquidation, at least -ugh!) and my fifteen year old daughter's college fund. I am comfortable that both accounts will have excellent appreciation when the time comes to sell. The next two years for me are not critical.

Unclewest's points, however, are sobering for the near term. I am pleased to see the R and D spending continue and the technology improvements in all product lines move forward. Declining ASPs are only a negative when investment has dried up AND the producer does not have a technological/pricing advantage. I think CREE should come out of this downturn looking just fine. I should have known you had good reasons for your move. I'm hanging in there with them and writing covered calls for income in the meantime. I bought a few REITS 10 months ago as balance, and they have done their job. There's always more than one way to skin a cat.

I am reading this right that sales excluding UltraRF are flat.

http://www.cree.com/about/news.htm

Luckily, UltraRF which can only cause tens of millions of writeoffs not tens of billions of writeoffs aka LU and JDSU.

PS I have said before to see more of what is going on with CREE's financials look like it is more revealing to look at SPCT finacials instead.
