I will readily admit there are bad union stewards just as there are bad managers. But bad union stewards don't cost shareholders millions of dollars a year. Bad managers, however, do. Big difference.

The reason $1,000 was given was that amount was all that was requested.

Re: "Whole industries have fled these shores due to your union execs forcing strikes out of false pride." Again, you're blaming unions for lousy management. Good managers head off strikes before they happen. Some companies have successfully worked with unions for decades, others haven't.

By the way, I also have been on both sides of the fence. I have worked as a manager and as a rank-and-file.

Federal labor law protects the right of a shop steward to discuss a problem with another worker on "company time." However, having said that, I agree with you that in some plants such union reps are indeed coddled. The real problems for a union come when the local president is too cozy with the plant manager. The two must be respectful of each other, but remain antagonists.
