Those market distortions are inevitable, unfortunately. Being in the Dow is worse. Nothing we can do about it. On the other hand, one poorly performing stock can really screw up an index, so it cuts both ways.

I don't think most people have ever bought stocks based on fundamentals. They just buy based on hot tips from their buddies or their broker.

Those of us who actually study fundamentals are in a small minority, I believe. I am not convinced that investing based on fundamentals is an intelligent thing to do anymore, but I don't believe in charts, either, and I sure don't believe in hot tips.
