Dear Tench:

Look at this: anandtech.com

And this: aceshardware.com

As you can see single 1.2 MP beats dual P3 in many benchmarks. Since quads are sharing same bus, they start to get in each others way. Thus, 4 way Xeons are slower than dual 1.2 MPs. The page where I saw that comparison is gone (get "no server found" error). You have all those 4 way Xeons (certainly you can get 4 700 2MB Xeons still) laying around (make sure it is a true 4 way only and not the 8 way version only filling 4 slots (splitting busses is not available on most 4 ways (2 out of 4 on each of 2 busses)) so, you should be able to quickly match the configuration of the dual MP and run those benches. Do try to get close to the same video, memory, etc., we do want an apples to apples comparison. Run the benchmarks and tell us the results. I am sure that would be allowed. If you do not release them, I would assume they didn't do so well (its hard to say you lost (I do have that tendency too, its human nature)).
