No amount of economic activity can make Amazon in its present state viable. It was not viable in 1998, 1999 or 2000. It has never been viable even during some of the greatest about of economic expansion in history.

I was really upset when I saw Amazon go up on yesterday's cheery economic figures for similar reason. Amazon shares are in the dog-house because of concerns with their business model, not because of concerns with the economy.

In this sense Amazon is more like a pharmaceutical stock with a drug in approval phase, and nothing like an airline, waiting for an uptick of the economy.
