Not a whole lot. Most of it is on the news. I think one of my earlier surmises is being played out now. The Dems don't want him to resign yet. They worked on the redistricting assuming he would be there forever and now are scrambling to re-redistrict to counter the Repub advantage without Condit. Dubya carried this district by 6 points at the same time Condit carried by a huge margin.

Condit has thrown the Dems into panic mode in redistricting. This district allowed them to more carefully realign other districts; now they have to rejigger everything to try to retain Dem in the district.

The Repubs want a special election ASAP. The Dems have no familiar face to run. The guy I thought earlier would be a good candidate for them (state Assemblyman Dennis Cardoza) opted out. He has been term-limited out and wants to move up to the state Senate seat being vacated by term limited Repub Dick Monteith. Monteith and Bill Conrad, who ran against Condit last time, are the leading Repubs for Condit's seat. Unless the Dems can apply their usual redistricting voodoo to eliminate at least one of them. Yesterday's paper had two articles about Monteith and how is doing this and that so well for the area. Bill Conrad has already mailed out a brochure telling us how wonderful he is.

IMHO, I think that Conrad might be a better Congressman, but Monteith is a winner; political instincts and Hollywood good looking. Charming & charismatic; what else does a politician need?
