" What's common to Rambus longs is a marked inclination to only interpret any news in a way that is to their advantage. Their other distinction (at least at this point in time) is their total innocence with regard to the memory industry, and their inability to understand what must appear to them to be very subtle differences in meaning. Yeah, I expect that RDRAM chips will eventually get to within about 30% of DDR and SDRAM chips. What does that have to do with our bet? Our bet was over RDRAM RIMM and DDR DIMM prices, not RDRAM chip and DDR chip prices . That you don't know the difference between an RDRAM chip and an RDRAM RIMM module is an indication of your mom-and-pophood. Here I am making the agreement: Bilow, March 26, 2001, 1:56AMOkay, the only restriction is that RDRAM prices are allowed to briefly dip below that limit due to over production issues, but such gluts will not last longer than 3 months. Prices to be achieved over the next 12 months, agreed? ... Also, these are DIMM prices, not the individual chips ... #reply-15563091 Here you are in reply: The Prophet, March 26, 2001, 2:00AMWhoa, I thought the lawyers were the ones supposed to overcomplicate things! Let's call it a gentlemen's wager - I trust you to concede, if appropriate. #reply-15563104 For 4 months the figures have gone against you. And now you're calling on me to concede? As it is, I don't have a source for RDRAM chip prices because, unlike DDR, it's a niche memory and isn't traded on the spot market. At this point in time, it looks like my prediction that RDRAM chips will eventually get to within somewhere like 30 to 50% over SDRAM will never come about. On the other hand, I would expect that RDRAM will drop in price due to the overproduction that is now inevitable around the end of the year, but by that time you'll very likely wish that you'd never heard the word "RDRAM", it will be very obvious that RDRAM is dead. And if you'll go back to that long agreement I typed in, prior to our bet, you'll note that I included language rejecting a premature ending of the agreement due to temporary glut problems. -- Carl P.S. I've edited the post you're responding to, you might want to go back and reread it. #reply-16139361
