lurkers bulletin

Isn't this cool?http://www.siliconinvestor.com/readmsg.aspx?msgid=16139444

even though the volume of this thread has dwindled, I still lurk on this thread

actually the low volume makes lurking easier - have you ever tried following a thread with 000's of posts a day?

one of the cool things about lurking is watching others interact/discuss/fight and even HATE one another. sometimes i read messages for intent and tone over content

4 hours of pre-labor last night
man am I tired (wife is too LOL)

Your sons may not be saving the world, but their being in college is helping alleviate a new gender imbalance that has arisen in the past generation. Women now make up 56% of college students, according to an article in the paper that discussed the dating and relationship problems this appears to be causing for college women.

I did a sample count of my '65 yearbook class pictures and it showed 39% women back then, so the times they've indeed been a-changin' in gender numbers.

My brood is fine thanks Rambi. All survived, [so far, with very close calls], grown up and more or less left home, though there is a yoyo effect.

We just had another arrival today, being a Japanese student who'll stay for a few weeks to learn Engrish.

On Ammo's liking for those films, apart from his name, how about "Rambi" as his mother's name as a possible cause? Rambi, Ammo ... is that a trend?

Meanwhile, my entry in the Diversity Stakes is Jay Chen. Message 15134944

The rest is worth reading too, but here's the Diversity claim: <I feel I am pretty level headed about most subjects I comment on given my market neutral background … born a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago in China, of Chinese Shanghainese (the distinction is important to her) mother (US citizen who had voted for Clinton because e had a nice face) and cocktail dad (Chinese, French, Creole, looked Indian), with English Jewish (living in China) and American Jewish (living in Russia) half brothers, (have gorgeously engineered cousins (some are Italian, Japanese, Chinese, French, African and Scottish mixes), nieces and nephews in all large countries of the world), educated (high school and college) in the USA, and totally corrupted in HK. Most of the clan is still in Trinidad. And yes, I love my country and the folks there, and I think it is good that they do not have to work too hard given that they are floating on oil and gas. I am basically the best and worst of everything, but very happy-go-lucky.

My favorite countries in the world, besides Trinidad, are the Philippines and Italy. I really appreciate small and totally useless governments in charge of gorgeous places populated by beautiful people, and I have no particular use for borders and government revenue collectors.

Ooops, USA is NOT rated the best place in the world. How's that for weird? You'd think such a diverse person would really go for it.

PS: More here on diversity: Message 16139578

<How did I get to be a French Creole Chinese Trinidadian? The physical answer is simple. Step One, slight but ambitious Napoleon’s brave but smart supporters, losing their grand experiment in European unification and losing their emperor, had to set sail on elegant ships for the not-so-terrible Caribbean exile, leaving behind the brave and dumb supporters to the fury of the crowds. Step Two, courageous Hakka Chinese clan based Taiping (Heavenly Peace) rebels, losing their high-minded adventure against a different emperor, had to hurriedly disengage, keep heads on shoulders, and escape on less elegant ships to West Indies ‘paradise’, as a cohesive grouping. Step Three, happy individualistic Africans minding their own respective whims, answerable to no emperors, whistling in the lush sub-continent paradise, unaware of the evil that resides outside. In a moment of inattention, captured and put on death ships to simply breed with strangers, work for not of his kind, and then die.

The metaphysical answer is simpler, bearing resemblance to robotic engineering. Each and every preceding generation must stay alive for as long and as well off as possible, set up for continuing improvement of the next generation’s circumstances by passing along the core genetic programming and by non-destructive education. To fulfill this fundamental mission requirement, the following traits must be totally absent or suppressed from the core gene sequence: timid cowardice, foolish bravery, friendless selfishness, inclination to die a fighting death, weakness allowing spiritual surrender, and fault permitting physical and financial suicide....contd...

Jay, you can get back to base here; and go in an eternal loop if you like....

Hello Rambi, I'm just doing another drive-by. On diversity again: Message 17458634 It's not all peace, light and harmony in the diverse world. Murder in Holland! Animal rights... how do you have your steak again? I have three vegetarian daughters - oh, hang on, I think I'm down to two again. Two quite avid. Meat-eating is barbaric when thinking about it.

Somebody here was discussing delicious lamb recently. I nearly remarked on it.

Where's Jfred? A silent Sier. I clicked on his name and he's MIA [missing in action or maybe AWOL].

Mqurice.

PS: Artificial intelligence is popular. We have friends from our Belgian days living in Varese Italy and one of their sons is working on it too. He was in the MIT labs at one stage. I forget where he is now.
