I think the strength in recent session is due to this 13G Filing:

Allianz AG Has 10.8% Photon Dynamics Stake

WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- Allianz AG (AZ) reported holding a 10.8% stake in Photon Dynamics Inc. (PHTN), according to a Schedule 13G filed Thursday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
As of July 23, Allianz AG beneficially owned 1,380,600 Photon Dynamics common shares.

A Schedule 13G denotes a passive investment stake in a company. Filers aren't required to provide a reason for any changes in stake and aren't required to detail any transactions.

Photon Dynamics makes test, inspection and repair equipment for flat-panel display makers.

They sure must be looking out quite a few quarters, since PHTN guided revenue guidance down for next Q. The only positive I heard in the call was that the slide in orders had stopped and they saw some firming. I am not sure when the rev guidance was down though unless there is a sessional effect.

fiber optics (capital spending)- went too fast, peaked, and now has to find equilibrium.
FPD manufacture - still gearing up (IMHO) as CRT's start to bite the dust - soon to be obsolete (IMHO)
