Noel - Re: " These guys promised a 1GHz PPC processor in October of 2000!!!
10 months later and it is nowhere in sight. I am really beginning to wonder
about the promise of SOI. Without it, AMD is dead!!!
Intel, which is already shipping 0.13u is way ahead of AMD in conventional
bulk CMOS. I hope someday I am able to figure out the SOI story. If its a failure
it will probably get brushed under the carpet by IBM, et al. "

Very good points.

AMD has already SLIPPED their SOI schedule from H1 2002 to H2 2002.

Look for more delays - and yield difficulties - and performance disappointments ahead for AMD.

These guys promised a 1GHz PPC processor in October of 2000!!!

And it is this vaunted process technology that the AMDites are counting on as their saviour. Intel will be at 2GHz on .18u aluminum before IBM gets to 1GHz with their SOI.
