Petered Out - Re: "You must have missed Intel's bottom line, the one required by the SEC, $0.03 per diluted share. AMD's by the same standard is $0.05 per diluted share. The SEC is investigating the use of "pro forma earnings" by some companies. That includes Intel but, not AMD."

Intel earned $0.12 on operations.

AMD earned $0.05.

AMD projected a LOSS for the current quarter.

Compaq isn't using AMD's Server excuse.

Neither is IBM

Neither is HP.

Neither is Dell.

Re: You must have missed Intel's bottom line, the one required by the SEC, $0.03 per diluted share

Paul thinks it's terribly unfair of you and the SEC to expect Intel to include its costs when it calculates its profits.

He thinks everyone is picking on him and Intel. Imagine, making them subtract their costs from their revenues to calculate profits! How cruel!

It's so much nicer to do it the Intel way and use "pro forma" earnings that include some costs and conveniently ignore others. The earnings number is so much bigger that way and makes Paul so much happier.

Why is the SEC being so mean to poor Paul?
