"Bush plans 'space bomber'

The United States is exploring the development of a 'space-bomber' which could destroy targets on the other side of the world within 30 minutes...."

This has to be one of the least credible articles I've seen in some time.

"...It would drop bombs from such a height that they would act as 'bunker busters', penetrating deep into underground silos without explosive warheads and causing massive pre-emptive damage on the ground ..."

Without any numbers or special expertise, I am highly doubtful that a bomb dropped from sub-orbital space will impact at a higher velocity than an engine dropped off a commercial airliner at 33,000 feet, although it may well do a better job heating up the atmosphere and itself.

Also, the article never mentions the significant benefit of not having to obtain pre-flight overflight clearance from its sometimes allies.
