Does value investing work? The question became almost academic in recent years in Hong Kong, when markets routinely expanded to bursting point and getting out before the inevitable rupture was standard operating procedure for most investors. After the tech bubble of '99 exploded, those value mavens still standing were looking smart. Then a new bubble arose this year, this time in Chinese "B" shares -- issues denominated in foreign currency that were open only to foreigners. The race was on again, but people started fretting as B shares came off sharply in recent weeks.
