Bigotry has the connotation of intolerance while racism doesn't necessarily contain that. You can change the meaning of the words if you want, but the dictionary will not support you. I hope I say a lot about myself when I use the word racist. I hope you know that I, like all the rest of the people in the world, tend to generalize about the people I meet. But I know that I do. And I think carefully about my actions to people and try to self monitor for prejudicial behavior. That is the best I can do. I self monitor for prejudice against people with disabilities, the ugly, the overweight, and for all people who might be very different from myself. I make sure I smile at them, because I know from research studies that people are less likely to smile and more likely to avert their eyes when people have disabilities, or are ugly or overweight. I think there is a great deal of meaning in examining my motives. And if JF hadn't posted his silly post about diversity and a rape committed by some people of different culture/color that he saw as some sort of example of God knows what, I would never have examined his motives. But he put them out on the net. They were there for me to examine. And when I see something I think is wrong, I comment on it. And I think that is wrong. It is wrong (destructive to society -not absolutely wrong) to act in ways that further alienate the races, classes, cultures, from each other, no matter what race/class/culture you come from. It's funny you would start something and then get sick of it a few posts later. When you say it's meaningless and pointless I am not sure what you mean. Racism (I disagree, it clearly has meaning, even if we don't like the meaning)? Discussing racism (I would disagree with you about that, too)? Your embarking on some discussion with me (that possibly is meaningless, since it isn't obvious what points you are trying to make, and I am having trouble getting any meaning from your posts)? What I think all your posts boil down to is that you think JF is a bigot and I called him a racist and a bigot. If you prefer bigot, fine. I can get behind that. If the "word" racism is all that is at stake here, fine. Use the word bigot. I think it's worse than racist- and it will do just fine. So there- meaning and a point.
