Oh, no, lots of women in this crazy endeavor. The few deaths throughout the years have been macho out of shape men who think they are invincible.

The medical care is first rate as is the education. If a reasonably fit biker takes in enough fluids, it is unlikely that he'll have a problem. There are always those who are out of shape and/or forget to hydrate themselves. You see that group hooked up to IVs at rest stations.
