SA is sort of like New Orleans ( without the really great chefs!)- the spring and early winter are great times to be in Texas... but most people just can't tolerate this kind of heat.... and it is REALLY hot. Right now it is 8:45 - and 95 degrees ! I enjoy living in San Antonio - but then, I've liked living most places I've lived in. Not sure I'd like it from the tourist point of view either, really . It has it's charm - but it's subtle .... and the downtown area just doesn't capture it. The Alamo and the Mission trails are interesting... but the Mercado is just border town schlock - and if you've been to one border town ,you've been to them all. For a convention on a tight schedule - I agree, it's kind of hard to get to know it.
