AB - Japan is a write-off. We will be lucky if it can maiontain its econommy at present levels for the next few years never mind improve it. Europe is turing into the next Japan. Except for Britain they have no oil and every time their middle eastern friends put the price up it is goodbye to a few more hosptials, schools and roads in Europe. They are execept Britain also hopelessly mired in their "social" rules in employment and as they have elections coming up i their meal ticket country, namely Germany, I wouldn't expect any serious structural reform so they will continue to decline economically.

The only reasonable bet is of course China which is becoming a serious economy as it was 500 years ago. But how much time is that going to take?

As for things getting better here well it seems pretty clear to me that there is no prospect of any recovery in sight and many companies and economists now talking about writing off 2002 as well. Where does that leave us?

Best regards,

L
